Susan Blumenfield

1949 - Jan. 5, 2012


The School District announced today that Susan Blumenfield, a CHS math teacher for nine years, passed away on Jan. 5 (2012) after a brief illness.

According to message sent to parents by Columbia High School Principal Dr. Lovie Lilly, Blumenfeld was "an outstanding teacher, a valued colleague, and a mentor to both students and teachers. We are certain that Mrs. Blumenfield’s legacy will live on in each of her students. In a very real sense, her students are monuments to her commitment and professionalism. Mrs. Blumenfield will be deeply missed."

Counselors were available Friday to provide support for CHS students and staff.

Susan Blumenfield

Susan (Epstein) Blumenfield, 62, of Livingston died Jan. 5, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Livingston for nearly 35 years.
Mrs. Blumenfield spent the past eight years teaching math and computers at Columbia High School in Maplewood. She previously was a computer programmer/analyst.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College and a master’s degree from New York University.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Stuart; her son, Brian; her daughter, Deborah; a sister, Renee; two brothers, Arthur and Lewis; and a grandson.
Services were held Jan. 8 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center, West Orange.
